Site Analysis

Good landscape design does NOT begin with a blank page.  It begins with assessing the site as it exists today.

Few of us move into a home that is totally blank canvas to work with - nothing but the residence and a lawn waiting for trees, shrubs and planting beds.

Those of use working on public gardens often find ourselves working on sites that have real challenges that must be met before the vision of the organizers can be realized.

Site Analysis can help an individual or group develop a Base Map of existing features and characteristics.  This Base Map is a physical representation of the data we collect during Site Analysis and physical measurements we take during Site Survey.
This section contains two PDF's of Power Point Slide Presentations and a series of data collection forms that are used to complete your Site Analysis.

  • Site Analysis - how to assess your site
  • Site Survey - a "poor man's" survey; how to measure the existing features of your landscape
  • Data Collection Forms
